“People are looking for puppies or dogs that are 6 months old. When he came back he was a year old, and then two and then three,” said Renner.

After 2,381 days—more than six years—Higgins’ patience finally paid off. A kind-hearted man named Brendon Reed came across Higgins’ story online and felt an immediate connection.
He couldn’t understand why a dog as gentle and loving as Higgins had been overlooked for so long. Without hesitation, Brendon headed to the shelter to meet him in person.
